Maybank, Warner Bros out debit cards ' Superman '

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) foster cooperation with Warner Bros. to issue debit cards that display images ' Superman ' superhero characters in an effort to strengthen its position as the leading debit card in the country.

Vice President and Chief Community banking services, Lim Hong Tat said through the joint venture, Visa Debit card Maybankard Superman will be given limited especially for fans of the comic hero.

He said the debit cards will start to be in the market in the first quarter of this year and is issued to encourage customers to use it as one of the payment methods including shopping for daily necessities.

"The debit card also offers special benefits and discounts for products under the brand name Warner Bros," he said in a statement released in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Lim expects Maybankard Visa Debit Superman as another opportunity to strengthen its leading position in the Maybank debit card.

"By comparison, the value of progress through Maybankard debit card more than RM1 billion or increased by 30 percent last year compared to 2011.
"The debit card Visa Debit and promotion that Superman will be organized this year, we expect through debit card spending will grow at least 33 Maybankard percent this year," he said.

Lim said Maybank's market share in the progress is 53 per cent and debit/ATM card used by more than 8.5 million customers as well as the number of users continues to increase.

He added, one advantage of Maybank Debit card is proved to be in millions of worldwide purchase Center and its function is similar to a credit card when making payments.

"It can also be used for payment for online purchases being the main features to attract the younger generation to use the debit card Superman.

"In addition, payment by debit card will also get Treatspoint rewards, reward points programme for loyal customer of Maybank," he said.
